Warhammer 40.000 Power Armors by orcbruto Warhammer 40.000 Power Armors by orcbruto
There is no secret that I just love the Warhammer 40k universe. It's bloody, it's gory, it's ironic, it's absurde and ultraviolent. But I always though the power armors there were a little... well... dated.

When Warhammer 40k was designed, in 1980's, bell-bottom pants and big shoulder pads were fashionable, and the power armors followed this trend. I have the impression most Space Marines just can't raise their hands without the shoulder pads smashing his head.

So I tried to design a more "realistic" power armor, keeping the gothic look and the pads (all bell bottoms), but with a more military look. I took some inspiration on real futuristic armor [link] [link] and on Starcraft Terran armors (mostly because they are Space Marines rip-offs).

At least now the shoulder pads are fixed in the armor upper arm, and not really in the shoulder, allowing the user to rise the hands =D

Here are three models, one for Inquisition, one for Adeptas Sororitas (Our Martyred Lady Order) and one for Space Marines (Ultramarines Chapter).

I'm just going to get this off my chest: I am NOT opposed to women in revealing outfits in fantasy and games, they are just gamesl after all and women have right to wear what they want.

With that said it just doesn't make sense for puritanical nuns to have boobplates.

I love these redesigns. Don't get me wrong, I still love the classic 40k designs, but I still appreciate a good update.

Especially like the Inquisitor/Sororitas armor. There's little practical difference between them. (Armor boobs are a pet peeve of mine.)

Well, armored boobs can look good, but are not protective, as they would deviate any incoming bullet, sword or other attack to the space between them... and right into your sternum, heart and spine! =D

That is why they are a peeve of mine. But now whenever I play my Rogue Trader game, I'm going to end up imagining my Arch-Militant in that kind of power armor.

... Yes, she had a suit of Sororitas power armor. Long story.

Hahahahahha

40k RPGs have a tendency to create such stories... I remember when I was a DM of a Dark Heresy campaign, and the characters just saved a sacred place from the Tyranids, the Sororitas said they could ask anything that was in their power to grant, as a reward, and the group's techpriest asked for "Tits of GTFO" XD

Oh, the Magos is going to need to have a loooong talk with that one about not succumbing to the Weakness of Flesh.

Actually in my Rogue Trader character's case, it was a bit more involved. She was a former Imperial Guard sergeant who walked up and chatted up a Sister of Battle on what amounted to a dare - struck up a friendship with her. Years later, my Sergeant has left the Imperial Guard after losing her whole battalion and being left for dead. She has no real marketable skills except for fighting, so she ends up as a hired thug, going from one Imperial backwater to another. Ends up meeting that same Sister - now a Canoness - on a ship while her sisters are transporting gear to a new convent.

My former Guardswoman is having a crisis of both confidence and faith, and the Sister is not exactly the most forgiving where either one were concerned. Heated words are exchanged, only to be interrupted by gunfire. Because it's 40k, there's got to be ultraviolence. Many cultists are killed and my character takes it on the chin doing something brave and reckless.

She wakes up later at the Sisters' convent, the two patch things up between them. Her reward for helping the Sisters out was a set of 'damaged' Sororitas power armor, a bolt pistol and a chainsword. 'Damaged' here meaning that the Inquisition rosarius was removed and replaced by an Imperial Aquila. Now better equipped, my character was able to market her combat skills to more... discerning customers and was hired on to the crew of a Rogue Trader ship. And the rest is history.

..... Damnit, I miss that game.

Have you ever thought about updating the Imperial Guard as well?

Well... Maybe I will design some new armor for them as well, but the Flak Armor and the Stortrooper Armor both look quite believable and possible... the GW Power Armor is the one that always bothered me (most of official art shows the marine's arms coming out of their heads or soulder pads that would crush their heads if the ever lift their arms =D

Well I'm personally a fan of that clunky, retro, industrial late 80s/early 90s aesthetic, but I can see how a lot of people would find it to be outdated. This is a really nice power armor redesign...I love the eye sensor. Back in October when I drew Soarin and Rainbow Dash from MLP: FiM dressed as space marines, I gave Soarin (in Terminator armor) an eye sensor, even though they normally don't have them. But it ended up making him look really badass. The eye sensor was just made for Warhammer.

Well, when Space Marines decide to go without a helmet, they still need a way to hear/talk at distance and see maps and other visual feeds, and a hands-free eye/headphone is the most amazing way to do that =D

...even if they are ponies

Yeah, you're right. It reminds me of the smartgunner's headset from Aliens, another franchise with amazing designs.

Yes, ponies need that too. But exactly HOW they are able to operate weapons with just their hooves is a total mystery.

Yap, H. R. Giger is quite a great designer! The Tyranids from W40k are quite based on Alien...

Well... I guess ponies have to possess some kind of telekinetic powers... otherwise it would be hard to design guns for hooves... heheheheh

Actually, Syd Mead did the mechanical design for Aliens...Giger just did the titular creatures in the Alien movies.

Yes, in the show itself unicorns do possess telekinesis...just not any other kinds of pony.

Very nice orc, any chance we get some helmets on these imperial soldiers? asking cuz the armor is very similiar throughout the series of MK4 to MK8 depending on the jointing and helmets. but im def liking these so far man, was reading earlier that there is even other varients of space marine armor that only nobles and sisters of battle can aquire.

Oh yes!

I hope to make some helmet ideas soon... I use to like the usual Space Marines helmets... well, except for the "beak" one, that looks quite ridiculous =D

I bet there are many variants of power armors in the galaxy, there are lots of worlds, and some Space Marines chapters have special needs of armor, not including the chaos power armors, that are probably quite different one from another.

And veterans always can commission their own power armors (I think I read it in the new 6th edition rulebook for W40k wargame)...

Amazing concepts. From what I have read for the shoulder pads that they slide up and down to allow that marines to move their arms higher, but maybe your armor will be the Mark 9 'Awesomous' pattern :3

Those are actually pretty decent concepts. I like the more functional design of the shoulder-pads and chest-plates. Of course, this being the Imperium where innovation is something of a no-no, I doubt we'll see it implemented. :P

hehe, the imperium might steal your shoulderpad ideas for the sake of less crushed heads and less material costs (especially the costs), they will however burn the plans for a innovative multifunction tactical screen on the front of the armour for that is to pricey and innovative :P, maybe they'll even give you some credit for the pad ideas :D

.....

and then burn you for heresy, since that is what they do best :)
